We moved to the Phoenix area five years ago, when Eric was just entering the seventh grade after learning of Gateway’s program. Eric always had difficulty processing language, lacked self confidence and struggles academically while his mom and dad tried to navigate the special education system of a highly rated Minnesota school district.

 

He came to Gateway and was able to benefit from a very personalized education plan and dedicated teachers, relieved of the bureaucratic requirements of a large public school system, who could better focus on the individual needs of each student. We knew our move was successful when the time came to register for the second year and Eric made sure his sometimes late Mom got the forms in on time.

 

We’ve seen such a great transformation in Eric. He was always quiet and never felt comfortable expressing himself in class, much less in front of strangers. Gateway always thinks “out of the box” to effectively teach the students. Our favorite phrase when describing Gateway to friends and family is “They just get it.” Whether it be a band for music education, field trips to reinforce scientific concepts, or toastmasters to help with public speaking, they find ways to reach the students when they might struggle otherwise.

 

Thanks to the incredibly talented and dedicated teachers over the years, Eric developed the confidence and ability to deliver an unrehearsed toast at his sister’s wedding last October that brought tears to everyone present. He is now a much more confident young man than he ever has been.

 

Geoff Rubin of Gateway has been very inspiring to Eric, as our son has lost 30 pounds and has grown 5 inches. Geoff has him very excited about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercise.
