Welcome to Gateway Academy!


We are the first Private 3rd-12th Grade Day School in the State of Arizona, specializing in a pure population of students that are Twice-Exceptional.

 

Admission Standards

Gateway Academy seeks students who:

  • Are catagorized as academically bright with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome (Level 1).

  • Seek a college preparatory curriculum, which emphasize academic/social/emotional development.

  • Have a discrepancy between IQ & Achievement on a standardized assessment.

  • Struggle with homework overload.

  • Have difficulty in large classroom settings.

  • May have been bullied, teased, and isolated.

  • Demonstrate motivation by the student and his/her parents to become part of Gateway Academy.

  • May have one or more of the following diagnosis: Level 1 Autism Spectrum; ADHD/ADD; Anxiety; Depression; OCD; or Social/School Anxiety.

  • Present no significant behavior problems. Any behavioral problem must be able to be controlled by verbal redirection without use of physical intervention.

 

Areas of Concern

These issues would warrant a more detailed interview process and possible denial of admissions:

  • History of physical aggression, (not as a result of environmental triggers).

  • Intermittent behavior problems.

  • Poor ability to self-regulate, need for intensive 1:1 attention.

  • Limited ability to work independently.

  • History of drug abuse or addiction.

 

Assessments

All evaluations (Psychoeducational, Neurological, Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, and Standardized Educational Testing) must be current (3 years), and, if not, families must commit to having updated evaluations completed prior to admission, or when the 3 year mark is reached.

Vision and Hearing Tests need to be completed yearly and is the responsibility of the family.

All students must be immunized in order to attend Gateway. Gateway has an immunization policy, for health reasons: to protect the student, the other students and staff, and to avoid having an unvaccinated student contract a disease that requires the entire school to be quarantined. Gateway Academy does not allow for exceptions otherwise permitted under Arizona law.

State Tax Organization Scholarships are Accepted!

Gateway Academy qualifies for the Arizona Tax Credit for Qualifying Charitable Organizations. This credit allows for donations made to Gateway Academy to be refunded directly to you as a DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR TAX CREDIT, up to $1,135 for single taxpayers and $2,269 for married taxpayers filing jointly. This means you may donate without it costing you a penny!
